Friends of St. James Music

About Us
Launched several years ago, The Friends of St. James Music both supports and supplements the parish music program.  It provides financial support for the special instrumental music at Christmas and Easter and sponsorship for yearly concert series presented in the church.

Concert Series 2011-2012
The Friends are pleased to announce a four concert series for the coming year:

Eric Pooley and Friends       Saturday, November 12, 2011 5 p.m.

Lessons & Carols                Sunday, December 11, 2011 4 p.m.

Jim Skinger and Friends       Sunday, January 29, 2012 3 p.m.

Bratwurst and Bonbons        Sunday, April 22, 2012 4 p.m.
 by Mike Mulder

The concert on December 11 will be the traditional service of lessons and carols based on the service at King’s College, Cambridge, that proves a fulfilling introduction to the Christmas season.  It will feature the seasonal scripture readings highlighted by carols presented by the choir and hymns sung by the entire congregation reinforcing the themes in the readings.  Weather permitting there will be glug and stollen by bonfire outside the church after the concert.

The spring concerts will again feature our incredibly talented and generous organist Mike Mulder and local artist Jim Skinger who have presented concerts in the past.  Mike Mulder’s program will feature German and French organ classics from composers including J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms (the wursts) and Gigout, Vierne, Franck, and Francois Couperin (the bonbons) with commentary on the pieces and on the history of organ building.  Jim Skinger will be joined by other performers among his professional acquaintances in a concert with the theme winter nights and rainbow days.  Our November concert will be something new, parishioner Eric Pooley and his band playing folk, rock and gospel classics from the 60s, 70s and beyond.  One more concert may be added to the schedule.  Each concert should be unique and fun.

Become a Friend
Being a Friend is easy.  All that is required is to come and enjoy the performances and receptions to meet the performers, to bring your friends, to provide a little help in organizing the concerts and to make a modest financial contribution.  Remember that concert attendance is not limited to parishioners.  A benefit of the concert series is making the community more aware of St. James and all that it has to offer.

Please contact James Gadsden, Chair,  to express your interest in supporting the Friends.
